Lloyd's at CES 2022

At the start of the year, CES, the world’s largest technology show, took place. Because of the new Covid-19 variant, major companies canceled their attendance, but the Mexican company Lloyd's didn’t give up and was present at this great event. The company currently develops around 70 products, including bulbs, smart plugs, cameras, coffee makers, and switches, among many others, all focused on the Smart Home category. Notably, Lloyd’s was one of the first companies to enter the smart home market. “We were the first retail company in IP in Mexico, back when other kinds of connectivity were needed. Since then we knew we wanted to start offering solutions using a computer for surveillance, but we’ve formally been doing smart home solutions for about five years, and our first steps were difficult because, for example, every product had its own mobile app,” said Lloyd´s CEO Salomón Saad.

Interestingly, one of the biggest turning points for the company was the Covid-19 pandemic and the arrival of the smart assistants Alexa and Google Assistant. “One of the most important triggers for smart homes taking off was Alexa and Google. That was in January 2019, and they helped us a great deal along the way. People buy the assistant and, besides having it tell a joke, they wonder what else it can do. Our products sync with them, but they also work independently, so being able to use them with voice commands is a plus; when the assistants come in, they give us a very strong push. We were growing before the pandemic, but the pandemic also gave us a boost we didn’t expect,” said Karen Kurtz, Commercial Director.

Today there are 11 million people in Mexico who use a smart device at home, and the country’s Smart Home market is worth 976.96 million dollars, making it a market well worth tapping. That’s why the Mexican company Lloyd's wants to expand into the United States and Canada and offer its products there, which fall into four categories: security, comfort, lighting, and energy. “For us, it’s important to develop products for each category so that every home gets a complete integration. Every Lloyd's product aims to make your day-to-day life simpler,” Saad said.

The door to the future opens up endless possibilities and benefits for society, and the opportunity to provide a fully smart home keeps multiplying thanks to the technological advances companies make year after year. Lloyd's has been in the electronics market for more than 30 years, and with its move into smart homes in 2017 it took a big step within the tech community, even though in recent years it has had some challenges to overcome, including the closure of many stores in the region it partners with, as was the case with RadioShack and Best Buy. RadioShack has managed to keep operating in the region despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, while Best Buy had to close its operations in Mexico due to the global situation. Because of this, the company realized that online sales were booming, and before it knew it, online sales accounted for a very high share of its revenue. Year after year, Lloyd's has sought to innovate with new technologies and apply them to smart products. At the latest CES, the company presented its new developments for 2022: the Smart Control Shower and the Smart Shower Wall, the Pet Feeder, the Smart Toilet, and the Gesture Sensor Prototype, among many others. Look for them soon, and thank you to everyone who visited us at CES. See you next year!
